Ride the Copper Canyon 8 days, 7 nights with 6
days riding, Learn rugged mountain trail-riding on a series of introductory day rides then descend to the gold mining pueblo of Urique on a four-day trail-ride. This package is recommended for most riders visiting our area for the first time and is flexible enough to satisfy both experienced trail-riders and new riders. The first day is dedicated to familiarizing riders with trail riding techniques used in the area, selecting mounts and saddles, and visiting a series of archaeological sites. The second day offers a 4 to 6 hour ride with trails selected according to interests and abilities to give the best riding experience, cultural experiences, or a combination of both. The trip culminates with a four-day trail- ride passing through El Cajon Canyon then climbing steeply to our exclusive San Isidro Tarahumara ranchito. Nestled in a high mountain valley, in the midst of Tarahumara country, this ranch offers one-on-one experiences with shy Tarahumara Indians while enjoying a unique opportunity to visit on their turf. Leaving the ranch, riders continue the 1400-foot climb to Pass of the Cross. Soon they begin descending steep mountain trails to the isolated pueblo of Naranjo. In Naranjo, camp beneath citrus trees, that are frequently visited by colorful parrots and fruit-eating bats. Share an outdoor bar-b-cue and freshly-made tortillas with our hosts, the Meleton Mancinas family. You awaken surrounded by towering canyon walls then enjoy a leisurely morning before continuing the mile-deep descent into the Urique Canyon. One night is spent in the town of Urique. Return from Urique follows parts of the historic El Camino Real and stops for lunch at Cerro Gallegos, the most beautiful canyon lookout in the region. The ride departs every Sunday throughout the year except when other trips are operating.
